In 1945, Otto Johannes Müller founded the business after returning from the war. He started by crafting the first shaving brushes and creating the MÜHLE signet. As the company grew, Hans-Jürgen Müller took over in 1965 with 40 employees and exporting to 36 countries. However, in 1972, under pressure from the German Democratic Republic, the company was expropriated and became state-owned.

After selling the company, Hans-Jürgen Müller began manufacturing brushes independently. It wasn't until 1990, after the reunification of Germany, that he regained control of the family business and rebranded it as Hans-Jürgen Müller KG. Despite facing challenges, MÜHLE celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1995, slowly gaining new customers and rehiring former employees.

In 2006, MÜHLE experienced a boom as they expanded their offering to a full range of wet shaving goods.
