In 1945, Otto Johannes Müller founded the business after returning from the war. He began making shaving brushes and designing the MÜHLE signet. 20 years later, Hans-Jürgen Müller took over the company, which had grown to 40 employees and was exporting products to 36 countries. In 1972, under pressure from the German Democratic Republic, the company was expropriated, becoming state-owned.

After a rebranding in 1987, the business focused solely on manufacturing brushes for the state, while Hans-Jürgen Müller pursued self-employment as a brush maker. With the dawn of a new era in 1990, Müller regained the family business and traded as Hans-Jürgen Müller KG.

Despite struggling after reunification in 1995, MÜHLE gradually won back customers and rehired former employees. By 2006, the brand had expanded its offerings to a full range of wet shaving goods, solidifying MÜHLE's presence in the market.
